Welcome Earthside Baby Nathan!- A Colorado Springs Hospital Birth
I met Michelle on July 22nd when she was 31 weeks pregnant with her first baby. We had a wonderful maternity session and she was great. When she was 37 weeks pregnant, I saw her again at a meeting where I was doing a presentation about the services that I offer. After the meeting she told me that she wanted to hire me for birth photography. So fast forward 2 more weeks and she told me that she was going to be getting induced on September 21.
September 21st came and we met at the hospital at 9pm so I could take some photos of her getting checked in and the start of the process. A little after 10pm I left to let them rest get settled in for the rest of the night. I spent the night at my mother in law’s house because she lives 3 minutes away from the hospital. I put my ringtone all the way up, just like every night I am on-call, and started to rest.
I woke up the next morning surprised that the sun was out and I hadn’t heard anything. I checked my phone right away and decided to send a text to check in on them at 6:30am. She informed me that she was still one centimeter and they gave her another dose of cervidil and they would start pitocin around 10:30. I told her I was ready to go whenever she was. At 11:30 I asked if they started the Pitocin and she said it was just started. About an hour later she asked me to come get some pictures and say, “Hi,” and I happily obliged.
I got there and she was doing so great. Things were starting to get intense, but she was working her way through each surge wonderfully. At about 1:45 she was checked and she was at a 4. After that check things really started to intensify, so she continued working through each surge by rocking her hips, leaning on her husband, and trying to get comfortable. She asked to be checked again at 2:12 and she made wonderful progress right to a 6.
About ten minutes later her contractions started to take over and she got to the “I can’t do this,” stage and she told us a few times that she couldn’t do it. She didn’t know, though, that she had just jumped from a 6 to an 8 in those 10 minutes and she was now in transition and transition would only last 2 more minutes until she would be at 10cm at 2:24.
She started pushing and her beautiful baby boy was born at 2:40pm on September 22.
