What is placenta encapsulation?

Placenta encapsulation is the act of taking a raw placenta and preparing it for consumption by washing, steaming or slicing the placenta raw, dehydrating, grinding and putting the placenta powder into consumable capsules while following food safety standards. The capsules that are created are purely for use by the owner of the placenta. Capsules are for consumption only and are not designed to reverse medical conditions or ailments from pregnancy, to treat postpartum depression, to ensure normal milk supply or to replace medical attention.

My role as a placenta specialist

As a placenta specialist, my role is solely to prepare a placenta for consumption. I do not make claims that the placenta may cure or reverse any condition. Services and fees are for the service of preparing your placenta, not for the sale of the product. Every person reacts differently to their placenta products. By rendering these services, you are taking full responsibility for any outcome that you may experience. Some of the ascribed benefits of placenta consumption are supported by ongoing research, however these benefits have not been evaluated or approved by the United States government or the Food and Drug Administration. It is your responsibility to determine whether using these products can be beneficial to your wellbeing postpartum.

My responsibilities include maintaining client confidentiality, committing to preparing and returning your capsules within 72 hours of receiving your placenta, and upholding the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and quality of professional placenta preparation services.

Client Responsibility

It is your responsibility to notify me of the birth no later than 6 hours post birth to arrange pick up or drop off. Failure to do so may result in delayed placenta preparation and encapsulation which may cause decreased potency of nutrients, hormones, and other beneficial attributes of the placenta.

Proper storage of the placenta after birth is very important as improper storage may lead to spoilage. It is your responsibility to chill your placenta on ice or in a refrigerator no later than four hours post birth.

It is your responsibility to discuss and arrange the release of your placenta with your care provider during your pregnancy as well as postpartum.

It is your responsibility to inform me of any known blood-borne illnesses by showing me a copy of your STD panel that you received during your pregnancy. You may do this by email or in person. Placentas with knows Hepatitis C or herpes illnesses need to be prepared in the client’s home.

If your placenta has been sent to pathology for further inspection after the birth, it is your responsibility to obtain a waiver from pathology stating that it is safe to consume your placenta.

It is your responsibility to inform me of any health concerns or conditions that may affect the health of your placenta or the health and safety of anyone who may come in contact with your placenta.

Reasons your placenta may not be able to be consumed

Abnormalities of the placenta or illness during pregnancy may result in the placenta being sent to pathology. When this happens, there is a chance that chemicals have been placed on the placenta and it has become unsafe for consumption. Infections in the birthing person or in the placenta may make consuming your placenta harmful for your health. A conversation will always be had if there is any sign that your placenta may not be safe for consumption.

Fees

The fee for placenta preparation to include encapsulation, placenta print, two ounce tincture, and two ounce placenta salve is $250. Additional fees may be added for certain items such as herbs or upgrades to larger sizes of the salve and tincture. This fee will be billed for once I have your placenta in my custody. If I have already taken possession of your placenta and you choose to not go forward with services, I will return your placenta to you for disposal. There will be no refund and payment will be due in full once preparation has begun, even if you choose not to take delivery of the finished capsules.
