Birth isn't easy... but you've got this

Sometimes birth is tricky. Usually there are evident labor patterns that tell us pretty much what is going on and how we need to respond. Other times, there is no pattern and everything we know just isn’t correct. It’s a tricky beautiful thing.

This mama had a pretty long and hard first labor and we all expected her second to be a lot easier. I got the call on Saturday morning that her laboring time had started and was starting to pick up. I headed to her and within a couple hours she was feeling the need to push so I called the midwife in. The midwife got there about 40 minutes later and everything stalled out. We got out of the pool for a couple hours and she was ready to get back in. Again, she got back in and everything slowed down again.

Sometimes this happens with babies in a wonky position… and oh was this baby a stubborn one who liked his wonky position. I always tell moms that wonky babies don’t mean an emergency, it usually just means a bit more work for you. So we worked the way through it. We did multiple position changes and mom had to push long and hard to birth her baby.

Baby came earthside saturday night after a day of long hard work from mama. She did phenomenal and baby was precious!
