I've Welcomed Another Baby

When I first found out I was pregnant I was terrified. I honestly had no idea how I was going to handle having another baby or if I could handle it. I ignored that I was pregnant until I couldn’t any longer. Let me tell you though… I needed this amazing homebirth. I needed this sweet baby. So… let me introduce you to my newest little one, Benny and tell you all about my birth.

On July 7th, at 41 weeks pregnant, I was terribly grumpy and couldn’t figure out why. But at 1:36am on July 8th I woke up to an intense contraction and it all clicked… my body was getting ready for labor and me being grumpy is how it does that.

By 2am I had had three contractions and I could tell it was labor. I texted my birth team to let them know and I cleaned my house. At 2:45am I decided to lay down and I went 10 minutes without a contraction and then the most intense one yet. My midwife texted right then to check in on me. Her spidey senses were tingling. She knew before I did. I told her it may be time for them to come in so she gave me a call and I had to immediately put the phone down to work through a contraction. After listening to that contraction she immediately hung up and sent a team my way.

I happened to go into labor at the same time as all the other moms and a backup team ended up having to come to my birth. It was a team that I love though and I was happy to have them there. I got into the birth pool around 3:30 am and the whole birth team got to the house at 3:35am. I was ready to push right when I got into the birth pool but waited until they were all there. I pushed through a few contractions and then switched positions and pushed again. My son’s head came out at 3:46am and with some maneuvering through shoulder dystocia, and everyone getting ready to help me out of the pool to get him out, the rest of his body was born at 3:49am into the birth pool without any warning enough for anyone to actually catch him. He weighed 10lbs 3oz and is an amazing chunk!

I am so thankful to Mountain Miracles Midwifery for supporting me through another pregnancy, Jenny and Emily with Organic Homebirth for speeding to my birth last minute and being the amazing support that they are, and for Brezi Merryman with Love Is: Photography LLC for capturing another one of my birth stories.
