Let's Talk Postpartum
“Everyone asks if they can hold the baby, but who asks if they can hold mom?”
I have come to a harsh realization how much I lack postpartum preparation. Sure, we talk breastfeeding and we prepare for that. But let’s talk about how to make postpartum a little easier for you! Here is a list of my must-have items and must-have things to have ready postpartum
1) Allllll the snacks!
Seriously though, have a basket or nightstand drawer within arms reach filled with coconut water for energy, nuts, cliff bars (or similar quick snacks), honey sticks, and other quick eats that won’t go bad sitting in the drawer/basket. Don’t forget a water bottle too!
2) Peri Ice Packs
Whether you tear or not, your nether-regions will be sore for a couple days. The easiest way to make peri pads is by getting disposable pads and putting witch hazel, aloe, and lavender essential oils on them, fold them back up, and freeze them until you are ready!
3) Wishgarden After-Ease
Especially if this is your second or third baby… you are going to want this! Every baby you have, the cramps will get worse postpartum. I tell you this for a fair warning! Personally, I wasn’t prepared! After-ease was a lifesaver.
4) Arnica
Arnica is another pain reliever. It is a homeopathic pain killer. Personally, I like it more than Tylenol!
5) Haakaa
Whether it is an off-brand one or the original, this thing is AMAZING! Even if you don’t plan to breastfeed, this will help through the engorgement phase. Stick it on there to get the excess milk out and help you not feel so full! And if you are planning to breastfeed, it’s amazing to get a good stash of breastmilk going!
6) Fridamom Peri Bottle
Lastly! My ultimate favorite item is the fridamom peri bottle. Unlike other peri bottles, this one works perfectly with no fuss and you won’t have to refill it multiple times.
7) Bamboobies
I lied about the lastly just because I feel like this one is necessary too. Bamboo boobie pads are just SO comfortable!
